Our Testimony
Many of us who were involved first-hand with the birth and development of Nusajaya Methodist Church would attest to this verse. The journey of NMC is a story marked by the sovereign guidance of God's spirit and a transcendent power at work behind our human efforts.
Church-planting had long been the desire and vision of TRAC. JB Wesley had shown its genuine interest to take this matter seriously by setting aside surpluses for the past two years for the church-planting project. In 2012, JB Wesley Methodist Church passed a notion to achieve that goal. By November 2012, a prayer group in JB Wesley was established, not particularly for church-planting purposes, however prayers would peculiarly be directed towards it. As the group met each time, the burden grew and ideas crystallized. By July 2013, a core team was formed for the purpose of church planting. Weekly studies of Rick Warren's acclaimed book, "The Purpose-Driven Church" culminated in a retreat, in which the group felt the unanimous sense of God's calling to lay down the foundation works for church planting.
The core group planned trips to find suitable locations to set up the church. Megah Ria and Horizon Hills were previously considered as ideal locations to start up the church. After careful considerations, the team found themselves in Taman Bukit Indah 2, a new residential location in Nusajaya. Seeking guidance and divine intervention, they saw the potential for outreach opportunities. The final decision was made by the founding members and a 2-year rental contract was eventually signed to temporary set up a preaching point.
Renovation of the premises commence and blessings after blessings were showered upon the development of the new church, which left most of the founding members and leaders astound by the support and encouragement they gathered. Our parent church, JB Wesley have supported our vision with monetary aids, prayers, manpower and administrative assistance.
On March 1st 2014, NMC held its inaugural service with an attendance of 108 people, including the former TRAC president, Rev Dr T Jeyakumar and representatives from Melaka Wesley. With the infrastructure in place, we felt the need to bring in the people. Several initiatives were done, such as distributing flyers to the community around us, approaching nearby retail shop owners and kindergarten and even holding a "Chap Goh Meh" event, did not yield the desired results. Few came back and stayed on.
However, God works in His own timings and ways which we cannot understand. A sudden surge of students from EduCity poured into our doorsteps and businesses around the area bloomed, as we continued to gained recognition and exposure as a community church in the neighborhood. Young couples working in Singapore and retirees living in the suburbs of Nusajaya came flocking into our church.
Thus, NMC captures its vision in 'Reaching out, touching lives, with Jesus' love" as it serves to welcome the relocated Christians from Singapore and from other Malaysian States, university and college students and residents from all over the the neighborhood into our tightly knitted family setting church.
On 17 January 2015, less than a year after its inaugural service, NMC was constituted as a Local Conference.
The Lord of the Harvest is truly at work, and we have been truly blessed by the opportunity to establish a church and community in Nusajaya, the epicentre of Iskandar Malaysia's ambitious development plan. People from every nation and tongue shall come forth and reside in this part of Johor in the near future, it is our bounden duty then to provide a place of worship and reach out to those in need.
Witnessing the growth of NMC has firmly convinced us that our church planting endeavours was never in vain. It is an initiative that could only be conceived by God, a project which could only be enabled by the works of His Holy Spirit through us. It is indeed a great privilege to be co-workers with the Lord Almighty and to take part in fulfilling His incredible vision for His kingdom here in Nusajaya.
